Please don’t think I’ve been negligent in not posting since Friday, there just hasn’t been any significant activity. The remaining two eggs have not hatched. It’s now 72 hours since the first chicks emerged and I’m concerned these eggs might not produce babies.
The three babies have grown noticeably in 72 hours and have more feathers. I always feel a little guilty when I cheep and trick one of the babies into opening its mouth to be fed, but it does make for a more interesting pic. If you look closely in today’s photo you can see the eyes are beginning to open. Baby bluebirds aren’t babies long. They grow fast. Typically they will fledge in 16-21 days, usually around 17-18 days. I will continue to provide pics of their growth until the 13th day. At that point it is dangerous to open the nest box because it could cause them to fledge prematurely and once a baby leaves the nest, it won’t return. Just a couple of days makes a difference in their maturity and chances of survival.
I don’t want to remove the eggs from the nest until I’m convinced they won’t hatch, but at some point they need to be removed before they foul the nest.
Mama and Daddy are so busy catching small bugs, they don’t even eat the mealworms I 
put out for them. That is really unusual for Daddy, he usually eats until they are gone. In the next few days I suspect they will begin to feed them to the babies. I continue to be amazed at Daddy’s bug hunting skills. He brings home more than his share of bacon.

Hi Lindell, Nice pictures. So sorry that all of those eggs in the clutch did no hatch. Maybe they still will but I rather doubt it. Who knows? Have a wonderful day today!
